The patients admitted to this 13-bed unit are not able to take care of their personal needs without assistance. Each person has his own room and there are facilities for parents, relatives or even representatives from the institutions, from which the referred patients might come, to stay with them during the course of hospitalization. The main objective of the department is to give the best possible observation and classification of the epileptic seizures and syndromes including assessment of the medical treatment. As a result of the severity of the patients epileptic disorders and the associated deficits, the average length of stay is several months. On discharge, comprehensive information on epilepsy in general and concerning the individual patient is given to the relevant persons involved in observation and treatment in the future.
